Dora vs. Star Wars!

This past weekend was a very special celebration: My son's 5th birthday and my twin daughter's 3rd birthday. They are within a few weeks, so we had one combo party with two very different themes: Dora and Star Wars! I had a blast making the cakes!!!
The Dora cake is a Dark Chocolate Fudge cake with vanilla buttercream, covered in fondant. Dora, Boots and the flowers are made from gum paste. The butterflies are made from poured sugar and painted with a food paint.
The Star Wars cake was a French Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream filling covered in fondant. The stars, space rocks and mask are made from poured sugar and painted with a food paint. The ship was made from modeling chocolate. The Lightsaber was made out of rice crispies treats and covered in fondant.

Baseball Cake

This cake was made for my friend Lisa's son Preston for his 8th birthday! I added a "surprise" to the top of the cake: a baseball digital frame which had a slide show playing of Preston. The cake was a vanilla with vanilla buttercream filling. All the decorations were made out of vanilla fondant. Everything but the pennant flags were edible.

Fire Helmet Cake

This was a cake for my son, Mason's 5th birthday. (his actual birthday....his party is going to be Star Wars). He is very into firefighting and wanted a helmet cake. The cake was a french vanilla with vanilla buttercream frosting. The hat was covered in fondant and the decorations and the name were made out of gum paste. The cake was a huge hit for my little fireman!
